REGISTRATION RULES

ARTICLE 3 - RECOGNITION OF BREEDS FOR REGISTRATION

Section 1: Acceptance of recognized breeds for registration.

a. IPDBA recognizes all breeds recognized for championship competition in at least one other association which has been established for the purposes of registration and exhibition of all breeds.

b. IPDBA may accept any new breed regardless of ancestry for registration purposes provided it meets the criteria of being phenotypically different from an existing recognized breed. Acceptance may be denied if there is sound scientific evidence that there are inherent genetic problems deleterious to the health of the dogs in question which cannot be eliminated though selective breeding.

c. Non-purebred dogs are not eligible for registration unless registered as a foundation for a breed

Section 2: Requirements for New Breeds for Registration and Exhibition.

a. A declaration of intent to establish the breed in question signed by a person in good standing with the IPDBA is filed with the Executive Office together with a proposed breeding program and a proposed standard of the breed in question that distinguishes it from other breeds recognized by the association.

b. The Board upon reviewing the proposed breeding program and proposed standard may accept or deny acceptance of the breed in question into the registry based on the requirement that the goal is to establish a breed that is sufficiently different from an existing breed. Acceptance may be denied if there is sound scientific evidence that there are inherent genetic problems deleterious to the health of the dogs in question which cannot be eliminated though selective breeding.

c. New Breeds which are accepted for registration can be exhibited, but will not receive Championship points until;

1. Their pedigree reflects three generations of the "breed" or breed group bred to each other.

2. An IPDBA Chartered Breed Association has been established and a standard has been submitted for the breed.

3. The decision to accept a new breed for competition lies solely within the discretion of the Board. This decision is based on the requirement that the breed in question is sufficiently distinct in appearance from an existing breed.

Section 3: Limitations.

a. It is understood that acceptance for registration implies only that IPDBA agrees to provide registration facilities for development of the breed in question.

b. No breed may be recognized for championship dogs which are phenotypically indistinguishable from an already established breed.

Section 4: Names of Breeds and Breed Codes.

a. At the time of acceptance for registration, each breed shall be assigned a unique breed name and a two-letter identifying code to be used for registration purposes.

b. The new breed name may not be derogatory in nature or duplicate the name of a different breed already accepted and recognized by IPDBA or by any other established registering association.

c. The Breed Association of the breed in question may initiate a name change at any time changes in the standards are accepted for balloting following the same procedures set fort in the standard changes.

Section 5: Breeds Accepted for Registration.

a. The following breeds are accepted for General Domestic Dog Registration in IPDBA. All generations are accepted.
